I never dreamed about becoming a copywriter. Sidenote. Is that actually what I should call myself? Maybe I should be tossing a “senior” in front of that since I’ve been at this professional writing thing since 2011. But even that seems a little limiting. As you can see from my website, my work spans a ton of different areas, from branding/creative copy to website writing and product copy. I also do scriptwriting and over the last year added Voiceover Artist to my CV. Even more surprising, at my current company I have even added product model to my repertoire … so, yeah, I’m a big deal.

Just kidding. Ok, back to this dream thing. My first dream job was actually to be a newspaper reporter, more specifically a sports reporter. It was a pretty natural path for me. In school I was bad at math, but loved all things related to reading and writing.

So, that’s what I did. I went to college for Journalism and minored in Creative Writing. After graduation, I worked the first 5 years of my professional career in the newspaper industry. It taught me how to research, how to deal with insane deadlines and to ask questions. All things I still use to this day. But as much as I loved that profession, like many former and current newspaper folks, it didn’t love me back.

So I pivoted to marketing and copywriting and started on the path that led me to where I am now. I worked for several different companies over the last few years doing all kinds of writing and learning as much as I could.

And now, that experience has snowballed to a point where I can confidently do a lot of different types of writing and content creation.
